How to Set Up a WiFi Digital Picture Frame
Step-by-step guide to setting up any WiFi digital picture frame in under 10 minutes.
Setting up a WiFi digital picture frame is easier than you think. Most frames take five to ten minutes from unboxing to displaying photos. Here is how it works for every major brand.
What You Need
- Your digital frame and power cable
- Your home WiFi network name and password
- A smartphone with the frame maker's app installed
- A flat surface or wall mount spot
Step 1: Plug It In
Unbox the frame, connect the power cable, and plug it into an outlet. Place it on a desk or shelf. Most frames turn on automatically when they get power.
Step 2: Connect to WiFi
The frame will ask you to choose your WiFi network. Select your home network and type in the password. Some frames show a QR code on the screen that you scan with your phone to speed this up.
Step 3: Download the App
Go to the App Store or Google Play and download the frame maker's app. Aura uses the Aura Frames app. Nixplay uses the Nixplay app. Skylight uses the Skylight app. Frameo-based frames use the Frameo app.
Step 4: Pair the Frame
Open the app and create an account. Then pair the frame to your account. Most frames show a code on the screen that you enter in the app. Skylight frames have an email address you send photos to instead.
Step 5: Add Photos
Upload photos from your phone camera roll, or connect a cloud service like Google Photos. Some frames let you pick specific albums to sync. Others let you upload individual photos through the app.
Step 6: Invite Family
Share the frame with family members through the app. They download the same app, and you send them an invite. Once they accept, they can send photos to your frame from their own phone. For Skylight, just share the frame's email address.
Tips for a Smooth Setup
Make sure your WiFi signal is strong where you plan to put the frame. If the signal is weak, the frame will be slow to load photos. Keep your WiFi password handy before you start. And charge your phone so it does not die during setup.
If you are setting up a frame as a gift, do the entire setup at your house first. Load some photos, test the slideshow, and make sure everything works. Then bring it to the recipient. All they need to do is plug it in and connect to their WiFi.
