Reading the table
- Which frames cost nothing after you buy them?
- Aura Carver, Aura Walden, Pix-Star 15" WiFi, Brookstone PhotoShare 10.1", Aluratek 10" WiFi, Frameo 10.1". The rest charge for storage above a free tier, or put better features behind a plan.
- Which frames keep working without Wi-Fi?
- Aluratek 10" WiFi and Frameo 10.1". Both store photos on the frame itself. Every other frame here keeps showing photos it already holds, but cannot receive new ones until it reconnects.
- Are any of these frames discontinued?
- Yes. Aura Mason Luxe, Nixplay 15.6" Smart Frame, Pix-Star 10" WiFi, Meural Canvas II by Netgear, Feelcare 10" Smart Frame are no longer current. They stay in the table, marked, because people still search for them and own them.
What the columns mean
- Ongoing cost is what the brand charges after purchase. It is the difference that compounds: a plan at $39 a year outlasts the price gap between most of these frames.
- Works offline means the frame keeps running with no internet at all. The others keep showing photos they already hold, but stop receiving new ones.
- Resolution matters more at larger sizes. At 10 inches 1280x800 is fine; at 15 inches you want 1920x1080.
- Touch is easier for someone who would rather not open an app. App-only control suits people who send photos remotely.
- Every frame here has Wi-Fi, so it is not a column. What differs is what happens when the Wi-Fi is not there.
