Full Review
The Nixplay 10.1-inch Smart Frame does something most Aura frames cannot: play video clips. You can upload short videos up to 15 seconds with sound. This is a big deal if you want to see grandkid birthday parties or pet videos on the frame.
The 1280 by 800 resolution is lower than Aura screens at this price. Photos still look good, but if you compare them side by side, you will see the difference. Colors are warm and accurate, though.
Nixplay connects to more photo sources than almost any other brand. Google Photos, Dropbox, Facebook, and Instagram all sync through the app. You can set playlists from different sources and mix them together.
The motion sensor is a smart feature. The screen turns off when nobody is in the room and lights up when you walk by. This saves power and extends the life of the screen.
One catch: Nixplay gives you 10 GB of free cloud storage. That holds a few thousand photos. If you want more, you need a paid plan starting around $2 per month. Aura gives you unlimited storage for free, so this is a real difference.
The frame looks good on a desk. It comes in several colors and has a slim profile. There is no wall mount option in the box, but you can buy one separately.
At $160, the Nixplay 10.1 is a solid mid-range choice for anyone who values video playback and social media connections over raw screen resolution.
Our Verdict
