The full review

The Nixplay Classic 10.1 is a touch screen frame that plays short video clips with sound. We did not test it in a lab. This review is built from Nixplay's own spec page, its plan page, and the Amazon listing.

Video is the main reason to pick it. On the free plan, clips can run up to 15 seconds. Lite allows 1 minute and Plus allows 2 minutes. Sound plays on its own. Nixplay's help page even suggests turning the volume down so videos do not surprise you. Aura plays clips up to 30 seconds, but stays silent until you tap the bar.

Nixplay lists the screen as 720p HD in a 16:10 shape. The Aura Carver is 1280 by 800 at the same size, so neither wins much on paper. Aura says its panel is colour calibrated and semi-matte. Nixplay does not say that about this frame.

You can swipe through photos on the screen. The frame turns each photo to fit portrait or landscape. An activity sensor turns the screen on and off, and Nixplay says the sensor does not record.

On the free plan, photos come from the Nixplay app or by email. Google Photos and Dropbox need a paid plan. Nixplay's frame page puts Facebook and Instagram behind a paid plan too.

Storage is the catch. The free plan holds 500 MB of photos. That fills fast once a few people are sending. Lite is $19.99 a year and Plus is $29.99 a year. Aura gives you unlimited storage for free, so this is a real difference.

This model stands on a desk or shelf. Nixplay says it cannot be hung on a wall. It comes in one colour, matte black.

Pick the Classic 10.1 if video with sound matters most to you. If you want free storage, look at Aura.
