Frameo vs Aura App: Which Photo Sharing System Is Better?

Comparing the Frameo and Aura photo sharing apps for digital picture frames, covering ease of use, features, and which frames use each.

4 min read

Two of the most popular ways to share photos with a digital frame are the Frameo app and the Aura app. They take different approaches and work with different frames. Here is how they compare so you can pick the right system for your family.

How Frameo Works

Frameo is a shared app used by many frame brands. Feelcare, Dragon Touch, and dozens of budget frames all use the Frameo app. When you buy a Frameo-based frame, it shows a connection code on the screen. Download the Frameo app on your phone, enter the code, and you are connected.

To send a photo, open the Frameo app, pick a photo from your camera roll, and tap send. The photo appears on the frame in seconds. You can add a caption to each photo if you want. The frame shows a small notification when a new photo arrives.

Every person who wants to send photos needs the Frameo app. There is no email option and no web interface. Everyone downloads the app and enters the frame code.

How the Aura App Works

The Aura app works only with Aura frames. Download the app, create an account, and pair the frame using a code shown on the screen. Once paired, you can upload photos from your camera roll or connect Google Photos and iCloud.

The big difference: Aura lets you sync entire photo albums. Pick a Google Photos album and every photo in it goes to the frame. Add new photos to that album later and they appear on the frame automatically. No manual uploading needed.

To invite family, enter their email in the app. They download Aura, accept the invite, and can send photos. Like Frameo, there is no email or web sharing option. Everyone uses the app.

Ease of Use

Both apps are easy to use. Frameo is slightly simpler because it does fewer things. Open the app, pick a photo, send it. Done. The Aura app has more features (album sync, display settings, scheduling), which means more menus and options.

For older family members or people who struggle with phones, Frameo is the easier app. For people who want automation and cloud sync, the Aura app is better.

Multi-User Sharing

Both apps handle multi-user sharing well. In Frameo, each person enters the frame code and connects independently. In Aura, you invite family members through the app by email.

One advantage of Frameo: the connection code system means you can share the code in a text message and someone can connect in under a minute. Aura invites go through email, which can be slower if the person does not check email often.

Photo Quality

Aura uploads photos at higher quality. The Aura Mason Luxe has a 2K screen, and the app uploads photos at full resolution to take advantage of it. Frameo compresses photos to save storage space on the frame. On a budget frame with a lower-resolution screen, this compression is not noticeable. But on a higher-end frame, Aura photos look sharper.

Cloud Storage

Aura includes unlimited free cloud storage. All your photos are backed up online. If the frame breaks, your photos are safe. Frameo stores photos locally on the frame itself. There is no cloud backup. If the frame dies, those photos are gone unless you have copies elsewhere.

For free cloud storage, Aura is the clear winner.

Which Frames Use Each App?

Frameo: Frameo 10.1, Feelcare 10, Dragon Touch Classic 10, and many other budget frames.

Aura: Aura Mason Luxe, Aura Carver, Aura Walden.

Which Is Better?

Choose Frameo if you want the simplest sharing experience and are buying a budget frame. The app is lightweight and easy for everyone. Choose the Aura app if you want cloud storage, album sync, and the best photo quality. The Aura system costs more upfront but saves you from ever worrying about storage or backups.

Both are good systems. The right one depends on your budget and how much you care about cloud features.
